I Did Not Hear It Fall

A few moments ago
I looked out the kitchen window
am I seeing things
what is that in the side yard?

How could something this big
fall this close to my home  and I not hear it?
I only have heard the wind
for several hours.

So fortunate
the way it fell
Did not hit another tree
Or my cottage
or me in the yard...

Must be at least 80 feet long from roots to end of branches.
I will have someone remove the top with branches and
leave the long large log part and the roots.
Something to talk about when family visit.

Little girls, Callie and me
will enjoy sitting on it
"maybe"

Hope the worst of the storm is over.

Wondering
Do I need to live in the woods....

Living in the woods is better than living in desert surroundings.

You were blessed and spared that it fell the way it did. It will make a nice place to sit and contemplate life.

Have a nice weekend ~ FlowerLady

Oh boy! I was just over in the woods ~ wind is blowing quite strong today, so I wondered if a tree might fall on me! Yes it is good that it didn't fall onto other trees and pose a big problem there! Living in the woods is a happy place to be.

FlowerLady and Charlotte, forgive me for being emotional - I love it here but I am surrounded by 100 plus year old trees. First thing in a long time that has unsettled me. If I was not living alone I think it would be different. Thank you so much for writing me.

Please stay safe. The storms are really nasty this year. I also cannot help but think we are seeing the death of our forests due to global warming. I have had many trees in my woods fall and I can tell you can only hear it if you are listening. It makes a very short whoosh-thump...and you have to be listening! Glad your house is safe.

I can see how it would shock you. So happy you are okay. I've been saying prayers for two days, protection for everyone in the path of the awful storms.

I pray you will be fine. I believe you will.

((hugs))

I've been keeping all my blogging friends... in the path of these terrible storms...in my prayers each day.
We lost a tree some time ago and that made me so cautious when I go back to the little woods. I don't go back there if it is windy. It's so eerie to hear creaking and rubbing of big limbs. Sometimes I wonder if it is worth the chance I take. Take care this weekend my friend,
Balisha

WOW!!! I would be pondering all the "what ifs" too. It probably would have made a sound you could hear if it were all leafed out?

Balisha and Judy, thanks for visiting. Tree man coming in a few moments to see about cleaning this.

Just emailed you before I saw this....that was really close. I have big trees very close to my house and get nervous when it storms here....all the critters will love the downed tree....you can sit while the girls walk the log....

Wow..the age-old question..if a tree falls and there are no ears to hear it, is there a sound? We can ponder that one along with all the wise sages. Just glad you were no in its path!

I just showed my husband your photos, and he said if we lived near he would bring his chain saw over and help you out. He would too! I was glad to read that a neighbor stopped by. A hug always helps. Sending a virtual hug to you ~

Sharon, oh it would have been welcome. Moving back to my homeplace and all the people I knew who would have helped are no living and I live so far off the road no one driving by would know there was a problem. Always very independent and maybe too much so.
Old life versus young life - there is a change.

So glad you are safe in the storms...after all it is Wood HAVEN...that would be daunting to wke to the sight of that huge tree down. Like you, when we walk in the woods near here, we are amazed at how many trees have come down, but then we remember the nights of heavy winds and suppose that is when it happened. The roots do provide home for little animals and interest for walkers....I see you sitting out there and enjoying the peace.
Sending you a hug...
