First Week Of February Dandelion

A partially sunny afternoon
walking in the yard
picking up some small sticks
pulling up with dirty hands
some winter weeds out of the damp earth

Felt so good just to have dirt on and in my hands

Look what I came across
a dandelion

My Webster's Dictionary
calls it
a yellow flowered herb

Never thought of it as an herb
have never cooked the greens
but have heard some people do....

Some use the leaves in a salad. I have found them bitter like endive. If a dandelion is blooming can spring be far behind?

I've also seen a dandelion in my yard ~ this has been an unusual winter so far.

Does it not hurt you to pick up sticks and things? Don't overdo things yet.

How wonderful -you got out in your garden and found a cheerful dandelion in the middle of the winter.

I know you felt good about that!

Oh One Woman, you are so cute! Out and about as quick as a wink. Fun words and and dandelion to boot.

Thank you for making my day.

I've never eaten dandelion either.

There is satisfaction in pulling dandelions. My kids used to pick them for me, and I put them in water as a sign of spring.

wo0o0o ho0o0o....you are out in the garden again! :)) love that you are slowly returning to your routine. i know it is healing to me to be outside when the weather is agreeable.

oh, my! dandelions showing their yellow faces already? spring appears to have visited us this weekend, too. it is too early here for spring to hang around indefinitely, but we are enjoying every glorious moment. hope you have a great week in your sunshine.

When I was a child, we had a local Italian family that came every year and gathered all the dandelions they could find on our farm. They used it for medicinal purposes, salads and for making wine. They came back at other times to gather mushrooms in our beautiful woods.
Now, to LM and me on Cape Cod, when you see the first dandelion of the season, it means the striped bass are in, and LM is out with his fishing gear everyday!
