Excitement In My Life

The first of 5 small yellow squash
were picked along with a
 small bowl of  turnip greens..
With a  small piece of salmon
my evening meal is complete
Also one tomato is almost ripe.

The beginning from this small garden
Just enough for one.

Sad - as I was on the screen porch
I noticed a hummingbird on the screen
as I went closer I noticed his beak
had gone through the screen and he was
trapped.  Pushed the beak out but
was too late to save the little bird.

Also the dreaded Japanese beetles have  arrived,
was hoping they would miss a year.
They have devoured my roses and
eating other flowers.

My oldest granddaughter sent me an
image of her and the special one.
They had attended a wedding on the
water.  Sounded beautiful.
In her note to me she said it was her first grown-up wedding to attend
They sure make a handsome couple
and so happy they look.

Youngest daughter and little girls will spend the day and  night with me on Tuesday.
I am so excited and will let the birthday girl pick the place she would like to have dinner.

Daylillies are blooming
They just do not last very long.

Just saw this latest image on my daughters' blog.
I noticed how beautiful her teeth looked :)
Memories surfaced of the years of orthodontist work.
Finally braces off in time for her graduation picture....

What wonderful news from you this day....lovely to have the fresh vegetables to savor, and also to know you will have those sweet grandchildren with you for awhile.

Enjoy.

Marcia, thank you. I have the thought that my lifestyle may seem dull to some. But at this stage of life it is all I can handle :)

Some of my friends has mentioned the beetles and how they are getting rid of them. I don't think I have them. Would it be obvious?

Good healthy eating. Japanese beetles are also here and I pick them off one by one for weeks until they are gone finally. Each year they seem less and less, but I am sure I should not have written that as they will prove me wrong. My problem is more an issue with the ticks.

Tabor, thank you.

yummm! we don't even have a veggie garden this year. only herbs. just not warm enough these past couple of summers to produce a good crop of anything. we pick up our veggies from the local WA farmers' market stands. the produce comes from eastern WA where hot summers result in beautiful and tasty produce.
still can't find peaches or tomatoes like the ones in GA though!

nice photos, especially the one of jamie and her family! glad you girls will have your slumber party - sounds like fun. :)

Sky, thank you for visiting.
A farmers market has opened in my small town and this will soon be an
option for me :)

Hi Ernestine,
You have been about a month ahead of us...I wonder if next month I will be experiencing the beetles return? I have bought things that don't attract them this year, but my roses will be their target.
A ripe tomato....exciting!
Enjoy your family when they visit.

Balisha, Sandy and Cate, thank you for visiting.
The beetles are having a feast today. I have been plucking off leaves and flowers and putting in a jar with soapy water..

I haven't grown tomatoes since my husband died six years ago -- don't know why, as he wasn't involved in my gardening -- just seem to be into divesting myself of many obligatory commitments, like regular watering of the plants which they seem to require. Was amazed one summer earlier when a big fat green tomato worm appeared -- wondered where it came from. I threw it out in the yard as a bird treat. Tomatoes at stores look great but have no flavor. Farmer's market would likely be better -- always want to buy too much there, everything looks so good.
