Not My Favorite

Forgive me
I am just not a
squirrel person

Miss Callie and I
end our day outside
earlier then most people

if she was outside
there would be
no problem

As I wash dishes
every evening
I look out the window
there they are

swinging from the bird feeders
climbing up poles
opening suet containers
they party every evening

I open the door and
clap my hands
they scatter and then return

Will have to cover compost pile
with wire - they have a banquet
every evening

Thought comes to mind -
they have it made
but then they lived here
before me :)

we have squirrel proof feeders which close with their weight but happily host the songbirds. we also have a baffle on a thistle tube feeder and hang our suet cakes where they cannot jump for access. we have, in other words, squirrel proofed our gardens. sounds like you might want to consider this, too. our compost is contained in a compost bin which has a lid. we do this so we don't attract raccoons and opossums more than for the squirrels. we actually have a squirrel feeder which holds lots of peanuts for the little fellows so they don't feel left out. i enjoy watching them scamper about and play chase with each other, but i don't want them in my birdseed or feeders!

I found a product on-line that I mix with the bird seed--it has Capsain and Cayenne Pepper--squirrels hate it, birds seem to like it. I figure the birds must like to dine on Mexican, spicy fare each day. The feeders stay fuller longer. BUT--I think the squirrels are cute and usually put some cracked corn in another area for them.

Good photo, I actually like the effect of the photo taken through the screen! Squirrels are obsessive compulsive!

Have a good weekend.

Sandra, thank you...

I do not like squirrels....we stare each other down. They squawk at me....I got the squirrel free bird feeders, and not only do I enjoy the birds, but, enjoy the frustrated squirrels. They eat the seeds that fall to the ground....

We thought that a squirrel was drinking from out humming bird feeders, but now we think it's a raccoon. Tonight, when they come, there will be no feeders..I'm bringing them in the house. I really hate to lose my hummingbirds.

Squirrels are savvy little creatures. We tried a variety of feeders at our old house but never found one completely squirrel-proof. My guess is they have improved in the past four years.

Beverly, Balisha and Sharon - I think I know my solution - but will take a little time.
Small amount of feed to keep birds coming and then take them down when Callie and I come in for the evening - there will nothing for the squirrels to eat :)
