New Practice and Memories Surface

At one time
this one would burn candles
at meal time
only on special occasions.
Last year I started burning at every meal.
At breakfast
this early morning as I finish with my
cranberry orange bread and tea.

Among my son's belongings in this cottage
I found these Tibetan bells.
They also sit by my plate
and the beautiful sound they make
as I ring before beginning to eat
is calming and seems I focus
on every bite I take.
The sound is beautiful
and wish they would ring on their own.

A memory reminder
my Beth in her 30 years of nursing.
Congratulations
my sweet girl.
I remember well
when you were home from college
for the summer - did not know what to do
and I picked up an application at our local hospital
for you to do nurses aid work....

Also, she was my horse girl.
Loved horses and they were on our farm during her growing up years.

Many memories of different lifestyles
that have been a part of this
matriach's life.
But I do believe
the one
I am living at this moment
is the best....

You are so lucky to see this. Many people spend all their time looking back to what they left behind wishing they could turn back time. I like your breakfast routine. I saw bells at the museum and maybe I should order those.

Tabor, thank you so much. So much not shared, a house full of children at a young age, running a business, divorce, beginning a life that was the real me, educating children, creating homes and finally returning where I began to heal 40 years ago.
Much I can do now
it is because I am solo
and live a much simpler
life and I love it :)
and take nothing for granted
in these last years...

Maybe life is best now because we have the time to appreciate every single little thing? A Cardinal coming to the bird feeder, a small squirrel eating the corn I put out for him. Two cats snoozing on the foot rest of my recliner while I cross stitch or crochet and every now and then, a really good Classic Movie on TV. I do love my simpler, quieter life.

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever have a simpler, quiet life. The farm work just keeps coming! When the farmer decides to stop, then I can too and have more time to do things I love: quilting, crocheting, embroidering, working puzzles.

Happy New Year!

Sounds like a delightful calming life style. So much to see when we slow down whether by choice or otherwise.

Your post is very calming and I like the idea of having a lit candle with meals. Your bells are lovely too.

Great photos of your daughter and reading about some of her life.

We all have much to be thankful for.

Have a wonderful 2015 dear Ernestine. You are already off to a good start!

Wow! Jamie's oldest girl sure favors the pic of Beth on the horse. For a second, I thought that is who it was.

I think your morning practice must suit you very well. I usually chomp on toast while sitting by the computer. I guess my journey to mindfulness is not on track. :)

What a lovely breakfast table and atmosphere. I love candlelight also, especially during the winter months. I love the sound of tingsha bells, especially as the sound disappears and leaves a lovely mindful silence!
I just popped over to visit from Barb's place at Live and Learn! So nice to visit you here!
