Accepting

Accepting these Winter days
catching up on some unfinished inside projects
or just sitting and doing nothing..
Sun will stream in the windows today
At lunch time I will go up to the loft, sit in the sun
and dream of Spring.

A steel cut oates kind of morning
Florida strawberries are at the grocery
and have been buying a quart about every 5 days.
On yogurt, oates or just plain with a little honey they are so good.

Tried something that I read about last weekend and wish I had learned years ago.
Rinse your fresh strawberries in 1 cup of vinegar and 8 cups of water (I half  for 1 quart)
soak for about 5 minutes, do not rinse, cannot taste vinegar, pat dry with paper towel
and put in container uncovered (I put paper towel in bottom of bowl). I leave sitting out
for 3 or 4 days and then refrigerate if any berries left.
Berries stay fresh so much longer.  I tried this last Friday and berries still
not showing signs of spoiling.
In the past berries sitting on my counter after about 3 days would spoil.  In fridge
they do not taste as fresh as when out.
So wish I had known of this years ago.
You can google in case my information is not clear.

The coldest day for this one will be Thursday, below zero and then the weekend is warmer and
calling for rain.

Wonderful and can hardly wait for ice and snow to melt, need to fill my bird feeders.

Interesting about strawberries!

I like the "sit and do nothing" option :)

...well, maybe read or explore blogs while the clothes dry in the dryer, etc. Just no need to be "busy" here for now.

That's a great tip about keeping the strawberries fresh for longer. I always worry that I won't get germs washed off; perhaps the vinegar would take care of that too.

Looks as though this whole week will be cold. The sun is out for a while this afternoon. I suppose it won't be long until we'll be wishing for a cooler day :)

Can do that with all your fruits and veggies. In kitchen sink with cold water and vinegar. Berries last forever!!! I wonder if it would work on head lettuce?

Love the tip about the strawberries will try once available here.

See and do nothing. Of course that's the best kind of "job".

thanks to each of you for visiting. at this moment
concerned over plunging temperatures. schools closed in my area all week
and in Nashville where 2 daughter's live - schools closed for week and something that has never happened before - the huge upscale shopping center closed
as parking lot like a skating ring.

Must try your vinegar tip. Sitting in a cozy indoor setting and looking out to the cold is a good idea!

Thank you for the tip about vinegar and being able to store strawberries outside of the fridge. I think it changes their flavor to be in the refrigerator, but they never kept well if I didn't. Now they will.

It looks like you are having a real breakfast of champions!

The photograph evokes warmth, my friend, and that is a grand thing in these cold winter days.

I am going to try "doing" my strawberries this way, then perhaps adding them to homemade gelato.
