Time Goes By Quickly

Just realized that 4 days have gone by and have not had a thought of something to post.
So busy and the simpler lifestyle I had in mind has not arrived as of yet.
Rain finally stopped and oh my the grass and everything growing at a rapid pace.
Sad that I pulled up part of my garden yesterday.   The continual rain or maybe borers
totally flattened my zucchini plants, yellow squash looks sad.    Everything in the garden looks like it is recovering from
a flood.   Small row of green beans and tomatoes are doing well.  Those specialty Egyptian onions
were fun to look at but onions smaller then a marble and no taste.  When I placed the order I wanted
the old fashion multiplying onions that come up every year.   They were not available and the Egyptian were recommended.
A neighbor bush hogged my path and it now goes deeper into the woods.   The wild ferns deep in the woods look unreal.   Enjoy working on the growing path. I ride my small tractor on the paths almost daily.
Camera, phone, water, clippers on board and Callie following me...
My son who is returning home very soon will enjoy walking on them.  Maybe tossing some limbs on the ongoing brush piles.
Does anyone know what this strange plant is.   I spotted this about an hour ago as I was cleaning my
path.  Rushed in to retrieve my camera.  I poked at it and the little black things that look like eyes are
some kind of insect.   Also saw this same "thing" a month ago and kept waiting for it to grow so I
could see what developed.   Callie must have dug it up....
Warm dry weather has returned.

Can't say what the plant is. Love to hear about your co-existence with nature. Your words speak of such contentment.

It is a fungus that grows in dead wood. Looks very phallic and has a smell that attracts flies! I get them every June and have posted photos. They only last a day or maybe day and a half before they deflate.

Looks like a halloween critter to me. Tabor says it is a dead tree fungus...ick!

Happy your son will be coming home soon, I know this pleases you!

Rain is good and bad, much like everything else.

I think you have done a wonderful job!

Blessings!

Beverly, slowing down is the area I am working on :)

I had one of those fungi growing up through the mulch my kids put down for me. I have never seen it before and thought at first, it was a shrimp carcass! Nasty looking thing I think.

Sad that a garden must undergo such travails... There is something similar happening here - too much rain and my tomatoes and peppers are a sorry sight. There will be less home mad spaghetti sauce this year. The snow peas seem to love wet weather though, and they are loaded.

I love the deer in your banner!

Cate, my garden looked wonderful in the beginning. Sad at the moment. This fall I plan on adding more soil from the woods and putting lime on it. Will see what happens next year.
Judy, my first siting of fungus like this. There it is and then it disappears in a short time.

Questing for a quieter life, as well. Simplicity leads me to continue paring down "stuff" and create or seek out places of quiet and peace.
The vision of ferns on your woodland path seems so beautiful...their depth of color and their design seem miraculous and soothing.
No idea on the plant mystery! Do keep us informed.

There are many different kinds of fungus. I had some in every little cup of my strawberry jar last year. Different than yours...it only lasted a day.
Isn't it funny how we have to "work" at being slower? Sometime please show a picture of your path through your woods. Mine is so overgrown this year. Hard to keep up with it all...Balisha
