Last Day of March

On this last day of March
early morning
fire burning limbs
and my old iron skillets
numbering 3
were put in the fire.

Many years ago
with children numbering 5
and I was working in family business
the dear lady who helped me (Miss Willie)
said this needed to be done to my skillets
and took them home with her.
I could not have made it without her.
Jamie a baby at that time and she would constantly say
that she was her baby - not mine :)
A tragic death that I can hardly bring to mind.
Her home caught fire and she died of 80% burns on her body.

Cleaned and cleaned frying pans with Brillo pads
and now getting ready to put 2 in oven to season them.
The other one needs more scrubbing and I am out of steel wool.

Too soon to put outside
but continually taking outside and back in for night.
Rosemary, Dill, Cilantro, Parsley and Basil
and will plant seeds of these and others
 but wanted something green growing.
Also several ferns.
and Lilac bush I planted 5 years ago is full of buds.
Wish I had planted 2.
Not feeling well
and did something stupid late Sunday.
Very dry mouth always and read vinegar/honey in water would be good for me.
This along with an orange and chili that was too hot has left me with a mouth
that is similar to a bad burn.
It will heal
but at the moment
can hardly eat.   Some do not like Ensure and pleased I do...

I'm SO sorry to hear about your mouth. I can't imagine the pain.

Can't wait until our lilacs bloom. Definitely one of my favorite sights and smells!

Take care of yourself. I loved and was also made sad about your memory of the sweet lady. So thankful to have good memories (and the bad as well).

We frequently have a hot drink of honey, cinnamon, and sometimes even a dash apple cider vinegar. Yeah, I have sipped it too hot. I have more or less learned to let it cool for a bit. The problem then becomes forgetting about it and letting it go cold. Such a hard life. ;)

Back in February I was having a terrible problem with severe dry mouth and a very sore, burning tongue. I believe that it was thyroid issue related. I was desperate to find something soothing. Even the very mildest mint flavored mouthwash especially for dry/sore mouth treatment made the pain worse. I found during that time that cold coconut water (not coconut milk) was very soothing and thirst quenching. I can't even imagine how badly vinegar would have hurt my mouth.

I hope you will feel better soon. Hopefully we will be able to leave our plants outside pretty soon.

Oh my! How I feel your pain! I frequently have sores in my mouth and many foods make them hurt so badly! I've always been told to rinse my mouth with warm salt water; it does relieve the pain for a jiffy.

Such a sad, sad thing to have happen to your dear friend.

We're hoping it doesn't rain tonight of tomorrow; potatoes need to be planted!

Hope your mouth heals and do make sure you eat well in spite of it. I have never been able to grow lilacs as lovely as my mother's back yard bush. I think the climate here is too humid. They get some mildew. Maybe I will check the weather and put some plants in our little greenhouse this week.

Tabor, mouth no worse, healing slowly. A greenhouse was my dream in past years - now more coming for Easter and will do as years past :

rinsing with warm (NOT hot), lightly salted water a couple of times a day will heal the mouth. stay away from tomatoes and citrus, peppers, and mustards until it is fully healed and then only in moderation. your lack of saliva makes your mouth more susceptible to burning. our lilacs are budding, too, and the spring blooms here are such a thrill to see after the long, wet winter.

Sky, doing what you suggested
but made a big mistake on Sunday with the orange, vinegar and spicy chili :) never again...

So very sad about your friend. As to cast iron - there are little scrapers specially designed to clean them, one large, one small in the pack, they are wonderful.
For crusted on, put a sander on electric drill if you have one it will minimize the work.
Love your herbs, I hope your mouth heals quickly....

So lovely to surround yourself with green and those lilac flowers will be a dream when they bloom!
How sad to have lost Miss Willie to such a tragic end. She sounded like such a wonderful lady.
I've always admired cast iron pans from afar, but I've never owned one!

Lilacs - lucky you! Hope your mouth heals quickly. Sounds like a cast iron skillet is a responsibility!
