Nature Sent An Early Spring Gift

Posted - one year ago
as of this morning
nothing blooming here by the woods.
A cold week in store
maybe next week Spring will appear....

3/19/2012

Drove down the gravel road
to the mailbox.
Returning
I saw it.
Oh my
I never noticed it during the
busy last 2 years.
Or if I did I forget?

A magnificent old Redbud tree
at the side of my cottage.

They are a slow growing tree
and by the size an old tree.
Several more I spot in the woods
and will tag so they are not
cut down.
Wish I could hear some of
the stories they could tell.

A thought
usually all the wild flowers and Trillium's
are in the woods by abundance by this time.
A few witnessed peeking through the earth.
They usually arrive before my garden
perennials.
Another unusual happening for March.

I think, dear one, it is a redbud tree. And you are correct in that it must be pretty old to have gotten so tall. It is lovely!!

Tabor, you are so right. I am not thinking all that sharp with decision of this puppy.
There are some in the woods that I want to tag..
Thank you, am changing entry :)

We drove home from church yesterday through the mountains. There were lots of redbud trees along the creeks and on the hillsides; so beautiful! We have one in the yard and since it has no competition for space, it has grown into a lovely shaped tree.

Such beautiful images and prose, so glad I found your blog! Residing in Suburbia, I long for the country living I've never had..perhaps in the next chapter of my life I will be granted that wish!

miss the redbuds from my southern home! lucky you! we had a dash of sunshine here yesterday, but it was just too chilly to stay outside long. hubby had on warm cap and longjohns but decided to postpone planting the pansies and doing the weeding he had hoped to do. he put together a tall, propane patio heater which i had hoped would warm us, but it was just too chilly with the wind. i am so ready to greet spring and see the gardens come to life.

how beautiful... expecting 8-15 inches of snow here starting this evening. Our friends are visiting from Knoxville. The daughter was a classmate of our Rosie's between 2nd and 4th grade (her very best friend, inseparable in those years) and they've kept in touch. Now they are sophomores in high school... how time does fly!

I know you will be watching the magnificent old redbud for its first blossoms. I think last year they were early and this year late. We are all so anxious for spring...want to hurry every leaf, blade and blossom.

Well, it will be a wonderful day when the redbud blooms, won't it? One of the rites of spring. We are experiencing another snow storm here... so just hanging in there dreaming of spring rains and emerging buds.

I have been dreaming about a redbud tree--one that I must buy and plant behind my building that I am still converting into my home on my new property. How wonderful that you discovered this one next to your house! Each year I cannot decide whether the redbud or the dogwood is my favorite tree. I adore them both. Thanks for the reminder of the beauty of this elegant redbud tree. And, thank you so much for honoring me by referencing my most recent Elderwomen Musings post. You are a dear.
