Yoga Is Very Helpful

If I had the opportunity to build this cottage over again
there are several things I would do differently.

I would have a wood wall on the loft
to do special yoga poses.  Also my kitchen would have been put at front
instead of back.  With seating area and computer in the back of cottage
I would have have had glass windows across the back to view the woods
and my garden.

While my son was visiting he instructed me how to do
several new poses that I had not been doing.  They are
done after my regular practice and
are helpful for my posture and helping me to relax.

One is done sitting against a wall very straight,
knees wide apart on the floor, souls of feet together with arms resting on legs
and hands wide open. (hoping how I explain this makes sense)

I am doing this against a wooden bookcase for about 5 minutes
before my day begins....

At first was doing it against the back of a sofa but
have found this better.

A lifetime of exercising and walking has not been as regular over the last couple
of years as new health issues surfaced.

I am once again doing yoga first thing in the morning and ending with several relaxing poses.

In the late afternoon have started walking again.  I find that walking in a slow manner to
my mailbox at the end of my long gravel drive and back to cottage takes about 30 minutes.
Walking in a slower manner throughout my day is helping with balance.

This is a challenge to me
as I have always done everything in a hurry.
I hear his voice constantly telling me to
"slow down
walk slower."

Hi Ernestine,
I need to get back to exercise and some yoga. I think it helps relax us. Don't know how to fit everything in my day right now.
I've enjoyed seeing your pictures...your woods are so lovely.

Balisha, thank you so very much for responding. You are in my constant prayers. Take care of yourself and I know that is difficult at times...

I was talking to a relative of my son's future wife and she has started to walk again She is in her 80's and has to walk with a cane because her balance is poor. she said she was embarrassed by the cane, but I told her to go ahead as the walking was far more important to all of her health. She must walk on even ground and you may wish to consider more level sidewalks in your yard.

Tabor, to pick up my cane occasionally sure does not embarras me :) Dry tiuuses from Sjogrens causes at times a little imbalance. But if walk slower it seems to take care of this.
I walk most of the time on the edge of the drive, very careful and carry a walking stick - just in case. Know the grass and yard well but aware something could dig a hole :)

Thank you for this gentle reminder about the importance of exercise and slowing down. When I deliberately walk and move slowly it is so contemplative and rewarding. Technology has made us all speed up, and if we can't we feel guilty. In reality we are making ourselves so stressed. Thank your son for this great pose suggestion.

I love yoga but even better for balance as we get older, is Tai Chi. If you have an opportunity to try it I'd encourage you to do so!

Our spring/summer hay season has begun so there's lots of activity on the farm. I try to walk for exercise but some days there just isn't time. I have to walk on a gravel road and realize how easily I could fall; so do be careful!

Marcia, Sandy, Charlotte, thanks for visiting.
Molly, they give Tai Chi lessons at the local senior center on Mondays - I may check it out.

Your words were inspiring ~ I got back on the treadmill yesterday. Once I remember how good it feels to move I get back to doing it every day. I wish I had someone to personally show me how to do yoga the best way ~

Slow down, walk slower to hear His voice more clearly.
