Daylilies are blooming, bees are everywhere. The thought never entered my mind that someday I would look out my bedroom window and see a corn field so very close.

Life can be surprising. Are you ever tempted to pick a few ears in the late summer before harvest? Or is it not human edible corn?

I remember in past years people used the field corn for eating and freezing. Now it seems they plant other varieties.

I could just cry when I see all these pretty pictures on blogs. We're so dry everything is suffering. I think field corn is what we ate when I was a child. I didn't care ~ liked it raw.

Charlotte, you are right about the corn. Can remember this is what my grandmother and mother cooked.
Cate, yes, Lambsear and the crop field is about 15 or 20 feet in front of my cottage - wanted the least grass too cut :) they rotate with wheat and soybeans.
How nice to see all those busy bees!! Everything looks very healthy there right now. We have so much of that lambs ear in our garden. It comes up everywhere and I have to weed it out! Love it, though, as it offers a different texture.
