The Fall

Sunday night
on the deck
looking at herbs.
Dropped cell phone
went down steps and onto
slanted herb garden
bent over to pick up phone
and lost my balance.
Knocked over most pots
nothing to grab hold of
and landed in gravel drive.
I was able to get up and knew I had not broken anything.
Next morning
my Beth arrived at 7:00 and on to ER.
Extrayed, shoulder, hip, knees, back and cat scan of head.

So verified nothing broken but I am bruised badly everywhere and some cuts.

It is a miracle that nothing was broken and I am very thankful.

Balance is a problem and occasionally using cane and walker.

So many thoughts going on in my mind.

At the moment mostly just thankful.

Little Callie
never takes her eyes off me
and following me everywhere
she knows something is not normal :)

I'm glad you had no more serious injuries and also love the gratitude stone. I've been keeping a gratitude journal for months.
Take care.
Wishing you speedy healing!

I'm also glad you've only got cuts and sore spots, and I'm sure I know what those thoughts are. Push them aside, sit with Callie and heal.

I swear by this DVD for helping my balance. I don't do it much in the summer, but in the winter, I exercise to it everyday. You sit on a chair or stand behind it...holding on while you follow the instructor and her class.

I think we should do everything we can to keep our balance good...so many broken bones are caused by falling. Joe is having a balance problem now with his back issues.

Our lawn is so up and down...it is hard to navigate without losing balance.

Gosh...did you ever in your wildest dreams think that this would happen to you, as you grew older? I know I didn't...thought I would sail through old age.It helps to tell about these problems so we can all relate and know that we aren't alone. Sort of comforting in a way.

Hope you aren't hurting...
Blessings, Balisha

So sorry. The balance issue affects many of us as we age. Thankfully, nothing was broke. Take it easy until you're back to normal.

Just don't let the fall make you feel old. We all lose our balance and fall. The fact that nothing was broken shows that you are in good shape! Dear, dear Callie.

Pienosole, Charlotte, Balisha,
Nancy, Sallysmom and Nan - Oh
thank you so much for visiting.
I know I do everything so fast and was evaluated by nurse today :)
Interesting and was told what I already know
walk slower
pace myself
do not do anything risky
and stop pulling truckloads of mulch off of pickup.
She was so complimentary on how good of shape I was for these late 78 years.
Said lifestyle, diet, weight, no smoking or (only glass of wine
very little) and my large consumption of yogurt and calcium filled products was why no broken bones. Old, the number may say it
but my mind sure does not.
So once again I heal, think positive and go forward. Callie needs me and I love nature....

i am so glad to read you are ok, but very sorry to hear you have had this fall. do you think your vision could also play a part in this? my aunt had a similar fall that left her bruised and sore for quite some time. her misstep seemed to be related to changes in her visual field. you are very stubborn, ernestine - you know what measures you could take to enhance your energy and balance, yet you ignore that information for the most part and plod along. i hope so much you will give some thought to the risks you take so you can make the changes you have been advised to make for quite some time. creating a new routine can change the potential for another story with a different ending. PLEASE. hugs and love are sent across these many miles, straight to your door.

I am so glad you did not break anything. Garden on a slant is a bit dangerous.

Age related--problems with inner ear fluid drying up, causing balance problems. Uneven yards and gardens to move around in. Dizziness from various medications we take. It just goes on and on and never quits. I used to laugh at the adage, "Old age is not for sissies", but now I realize, it is very, very true!!!

Sky, no vision problems or mind problems :) really just balance at this time. Yes, I plod along
doing all I know and will probably leave this earth doing and not sitting :) Mel, thank you.
Judy, no medication doing this
on just 2 - just part of the inflammatory problem and I move to fast....

Losing a sense of balance must be a very difficult caution when you are living alone. Do you have the emergency call button? If not, you should consider it. What if you could not have gotten up? Of course, you did have the cell phone, but sometime you might not. Getting old is not for sissies and I am sure you are a little mad about it. So glad that you are just bruised and that you have such a good attitude.

I am so sorry to hear about your fall, Ernestine, and relieved to know nothing is broken, but then, the bruises, etc, can be just as bad sometimes. I, too, can feel how easy it is to fall these days. what a terrible feeling when there is nothing to grab on to. May your healing speed along! Sweet Callie. What a blessing she is for you.

The thing about a fall...is that it's so darn confusing. Like , how did THAT happen?? I remember as I was crashing down the stairs to a broken ankle, I kept thinking: "but I do yoga!!" So glad you are in such good shape that the damage was not great. A big fall wakes up your attention to how you are maneuvering, just don't let it make you fearful. Yogurt and yoga!!!

I was wondering earlier today what you've been up to and made a note to check your blog. I was alarmed when I started reading and am relieved that nothing was broken. Take care of yourself, Ernestine. You are healthy and in good shape and want to stay that way:)

Tabor, Marcia, LR and Sharon,
Saturday morning
and a good night.
Just this one needs to be more
careful and not move so fast.
A call button - not now - just phone always in pocket.
I am thankful
and life is good on this 50 degree morning...

Your comment on my blog (Dalamory) sent me hunting through your back posts....... a fall like this one takes away confidence as well as balance. Take the time to heal well, and I hope you continue to regain your full health. Every Blessing. Freda from Dalamory (www.freda.org.uk)
