Thursday Happenings

I was not going to post this late afternoon. I was looking at my one and only blooming orchid. Looked back through my post where I wrote about it. February 17 it had 9 flowers and 7 buds - which I cut off thinking it was a dead branch. Well this beauty is still blooming and looks incredible. Has 9 beautiful flowers and a big bud ready to open. This orchid has surely brought me pleasure for the 10 years that I have owned it.

It has been a long day. I left for country very early and stopped for breakfast. By doing this I thought I could get an earlier start to the country. It was the first breakfast at the Cracker Barrel that was not all that good. But I did not say anything.

Then on to pick out my appliances. This took several hours. Then on to Woodhaven. I was hoping that the dirt could be bulldozed around the house - but - I had forgotten that the gas line had to be put in. So a drive to the utility office to finalize this matter. A walk in the woods with nothing cited and then the drive home.

Oh, before I forget - as I passed the dog shelter I saw a dog that looked like Sadie in the fenced area. I turned my car around and went inside to investigate. I should not have - keep thinking of this little dog that may be put to sleep on Monday. But - I cannot leave her in the country unattended and I cannot have a dog at this city home while it is on the market. So this saddens me and also makes me realize how much I miss having a dog.

Sitting in my chair on the terrace I kept seeing something shiny in the Magnolia tree in the side yard. After investigating - and I already suspected this - there was a nest with the silver tinsel hanging out of it. A Robin was feeding her baby or babies - I could see their mouths open.
I would have been thrilled if I could have taken an image of this. By the time the camera was brought outside the mama was no where in sight.

So I took a picture of my first Iris and also an image of a pink bloom on the Dogwood tree. I do not think I have ever seen such beautiful Dogwoods as they appear this year. They are spectacular as I drive the highway. Every tree looks like a perfect beautiful specimen.

why not tell the shelter you want the doggie but need a foster home for it until your home is ready to move into? maybe someone there will help you or at least hold the pup for you.

lovely pics. wish our orchid would bloom again. seems like it has been forver.

Love your wonderful orchid story. An enduring and endearing green companion. Your busy day certainly had an array of emotional elements. I can well imagine you are longing to be snug in your new home and well past all this preliminary hurdle jumping. Or, could it be you have done all this before and know how to pace yourself? I'll straddle the fence and say both.

I have two orchid plants that I have saved from one my daughter bought me one year. I have had them for about 18 months and no indication of blooms. I am not good with orchids. I like Sky's idea for the dog. That Sky is always thinking!

Sky, I ask if they could keep the doggie for me. They said "no".
Had several other ideas and I will see. Tabor this Orchid is truly a joy. Cloudhands, yes I have done this many times before and really try and pace myself. But the One Woman decision process gets to me about this time. I am weary and will be home the next few days. My frig needs food and city cottage needs some attention.
Thanks special friends for checking in.

Ernestine....the orchid is so beautiful and a complement to your lovely home. I've never tried growing an orchid...perhaps sometime you could write about how you do it!
Working in the build industry, I empathize with where you are with Woodhaven right now. Very quickly it will all come together and be ready for you!
I, too, liked Sky's idea about a foster home for the doggie....too bad they wouldn't do it but perhaps you can come up with another solution. So nice to have a furry ompanion!

If the dog is of a certain breed there are organizations that keep the dogs and find homes for them. Perhaps that might be an option.

My daughter got her first German Shepherd from a group that take that breed until a home can be found.

Could one of your children foster the dog until you are ready for him/her? It is sad that the dog will be euthanized when there is a willing home to be had in the future. Perhaps you could offer to pay for the care of the dog until you can take him.

Marcia, I have done nothing special for this orchid. Just water once a week and add fertilizer to the water. That is all. Guess it likes me!!!
Darlene - guess I will have to wait. Thank you dear friend.
