What Winter Is This

When I was growing up I could remember my grandmother's referring to the cold snaps in the Spring as certain winters.   Like Redbud, Dogwood, Blackberry and on and on.
I do know that for the third time I have gone to the storage room to retrieve a warm sweater and my flannel gown.
In a way it is kind of nice.   I am well aware how hard I worked on these early Spring days.  As it warms up the end of the week I will once again be outside and almost overdoing.   Still trying to learn to pace myself.
Early this morning Yoga, light breakfast with coffee.   I seldom drink coffee but for some reason this cool
morning called for it    I can remember through the years at my parents home it was the first scent I smelled when waking up in the morning.   Even now though I do not drink it often - I love the smell.
Chili is going to be made today.    Probably the last time until next Fall.   Seemed this is what I should prepare today.
I went to church yesterday and also attended a class that I went to for many years.
Just 5 ladies and it seemed to me that time had stood still.   They looked the same, talked the same - I wondered if they viewed me in that way?    I think of myself as being such a different person then when I met with them weekly those years in the past.
Yesterday was just the way it was suppose to be.
I want everyday to be that way.

I seem to remember hearing about a Blackberry Winter being a cold snap just about now...when the blackberries were starting to bloom. I would guess that a dogwood would be when the dogwoods bloom. I love old folklore about the seasons and plants. Balisha

It's 45 degrees and rainy here on this day in May, but that's not that unusual in Maine. I am looking into taking a yoga class; I have tried before and it didn't "take" for some reason. I think it's time to try again.

...and dipping into your new-found life makes me smile. Thank you (as always) for your giving.

ALWAYS love a chili day...the scent of it burbling on the stove, the memories.

All joys,

Balisha, thanks for visiting.
Sharon, I have a number of yoga poses I do on the floor by myself :)
Sharon, thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to visit me.
Judy and Beverly, sure is cold today. Seems I cannot get warm and really do not feel like doing anything - yet did load of wash and made chili - guess that is something....

These cold spring days are meant for April...not May...but you are right...we take it as it comes, wrap ourselves in memory and wistfulness. And wait for the sun to shine. We know it will.

we have had cold and warm days back to back for weeks. I can never figure out what to wear! I have managed to keep the heat off for over a month and am proud of that!

Cold weather reminds me of my origins -- Michigan. So like you liking the smell of coffee when you were young -- I like the cold snaps of spring. Enjoyed your stroll through your day -- barbara

Your morning sounds divine. Yoga and coffee, ahhhh.

In Oregon it is has been a cold spring and we are far behind you. Yesterday we planted lettuce and peas.

soups and chowders and hot beverages feel comforting on days when dampness joins these cool temperatures. we had 2-3 warm days (low to mid 60s with sunshine!) recently but are back in colder temps with rain. i was quite chilled yesterday after a long garden visit in the drizzly cold while hubby finished planting impatiens. it's hot tea and lemon for me since i don't drink coffee either.

Deborah, Kerry, Sky, Tabor, Barbara, thanks for visiting.
Tabor, I weakened and turned heat on yesterday :) Barbara, another similarity with you - I grew up in Michigan - too cold for me now.
Kerry do not know anything about Oregon...

The worst is when it is drizzle and wet and muggy and the least bit of heating makes you hot, but without it you shiver....... and the humidity is 98% Oh! sounds like Scotland in the spring
