Why Get Upset

She smiles as she views her progress
Everything in order
Neat and tidy
gardens groomed almost daily
A surprise storm
 torrential rains and
the wind blew mightily
rain needed - but
screens blown off porch
limbs everywhere
screen door hanging by hinges
Lucky no tree fell
on cottage
Just everything looked so nice
for family visits
soon
Then the thought
- and she feels ashamed -
in light of what is occurring
in the world and in some lives
this is nothing.

"Why get upset if you can do something about it?
And, if you can't do anything abut it, then why get upset
~~Robert Thurman~~ Tricycle Daily Dharma

You are so right. Now, if we could all just remember this.

I like the quote! I have been trying to live that for the last 5 years.

What matters is that we get over our initial disappointment when things don't go exactly right. Then we can put things in perspective and put right what we can.

Your honesty and personal reflection are inspiring ~

I know just how you feel...glad you are safe and your house is OK. If we could only remember that quote. Balisha

You get upset because you are human and wired to sense and act on danger. You just want your things in order. Sure the world is suffering, but you can be, too, no matter what upsets you (how big or small:)

Kaveri, you heal me with your words :) The mess still bothers me.

Striving to live by those very words....those storms are rolling through here, too. VERY heavy rain and wind. Another batch on the way now.
We need the rain.
Hope the clean-up will not be too hard.

I've just found your blog and like the way that you write and your view on life. The quote helps us to understand how we are meant to react in the world when we come across pain, evil and distress. It helps to know we cannot always help. Thank you for sharing the ageing journey the way that you are.
