One Woman's Path

My path has continued to grow in length and width.  It is now about 4 foot wide and instead of one path there are three that begin at the back of my cottage and all connect like 3 circles.
3 or 4 times a week I ride my lawn tractor on these paths.  Deck is high and blade is whirling.  This keeps them clean.   Once a week I walk the paths and  clear any small branches or sticks that may have
fallen on them.  My son has shared that in Thailand - the monks sweep the paths in the woods where they live.
Two years ago when I started clearing - my plan was one path.  Little by little the path grew as I would ride my mower over a section many times until I now have some nice clear walkng paths.   I enjoy being in the woods surrounded by nature and family usually walk on the paths.   Little granddaughter's and Callie run on them.   As I deadhead my plants and thin some I plan on just putting them in the woods.  I will give them no care and see if some survive..

My daughter from Florida just sent an email and told me my path looks like a small road :)

It will be interesting to see what plants you place there will return to your woods next year. You may be in for wonderful surprises.

We have lady slippers that are spreading throughout our woods, and with no help from us. My daughter did some research and said it has to do with the type of soil they like.

I do not have Lady Slippers - the woods are dense and damp - a lot of ferns. Last year instead of throwing away some mums I received in pots I put them in the woods - they are blooming now - about 3 months early :)

Not much in life is more personal than a path(s) you have cleared. It is so interesting that you mow, walk and clear debris, and the grand girls run away down these same paths. I can tell you from experience, they will never forget their days with you, and one day, there will be stories they have written of these fabulous days in the woodland. All their experiences will be wrapped in your love and that you took the time to share their lives.

Blessings and thank you, for all you share.

Sandra, ready to turn computer off and read your comment.
Now - I know you did not mean to make me cry - thank you for your kind words...
One Woman who use to carry a briefcase and dressed in high fashion - now cleans the woods :)
happy and content - that says it all.

You do realize how lucky you are to live here--right? My life long dream--to live in the woods.

Judy, oh yes I am so thankful.
But then you have Fred and I travel alone :) I have to be creating. Will see how long it last.
My daughter just wrote and said my path looks like a small road...

I have been the lady in hose, heels, make up, nails done and carrying the briefcase on wheels. Traveled south Florida visiting my State roadway jobs....and now...I rarely wear make up, refuse to wear hose or heels, and hold the natural world close, in my heart and imagination. I have time to live the life I dreamt of, with a few alterations of course, we have all had that. Yes?!

Writing, blogging, reading, staying up late - sleeping late (most days), walking, taking photographs. My health first and then, the sky is the limit!

You know exactly what I mean....One Woman Path (hows that for hitting the nail on the head), you are "One Woman of Three Path's.)

Wishing you a wonderful week.

Sandra, thank you for visiting.
The main differance you shared - is - I go to bed early and get up early - that is me..
Torrential rain and winds just blew through. Screens on my screened in porch are damaged :)
Could be worse..

I did similarly in Mississippi, but we moved to Oregon in 1986 and have been city folks ever since. I miss living in the woods, but I have the good fortune to live in a state in which real wilderness isn't hard to find.

Your post reminds me of a walking path that my childhood best friend and I cleared in the woods to connect our houses, so that we could walk through the woods to see each other instead of the road. It was so satisfying to clear the path ourselves, with no adult help. Very good for the soul to be in the woods...
